Quartz lake is one of the best spots to camp and fish if you do not want to drive too far from Fairbanks. The lake is located 86 miles Southeast of Fairbanks taking the Richardson Highway. Based on the Division of Parks & Outdoor Recreation (2017), there are 16 campsites within the loop road and 87 parking and camping sites in the parking lot (para. 1). Also, every year 34,000 fish are harvested to expand fish and gaming opportunities.
Camping there with my friends was quite an experience. A few notes and tips about the site:
- Public restrooms are provided that are kept fairly clean
- You may run into some wildlife such as moose or bear
- Arrive early for holiday weekends if you want a spot
- Docks are provided for boats
